For me, it was all about the people with experience taking the the time to train me on how I was approaching, presenting and communicating my ideas, products and services to my customers. When they showed me how to change my sales call approach - my customers eventually change their buying behavior with me.
And my true success really started when I was taught how to control the customer conversation. From here, I was able to focus on building trust with my customers. Once the customer trusted me, they were more willing to listen, work and buy from me.
There wasn't a magic formula I used and I never had a 100% close rate. But for me, just winning over 1 - 2% more customers, was significant and still is. Applying simple techniques taught to me and also from real-time customer interactions.
To sum it all up; it's was about how I was able to learn the right sales call techniques to stay in-control of the sales call customer conversation. I mastered and applied the 5 core sales call elements.
